We arrived at Post Office Bay late afternoon armed with our self-addressed post cards that we'd written earlier. The 'post office' was just as it appears in the guide books, consisting of a small wooden barrel shaped box surrounded by a jumble of old planks that resembling an unlit bonfire. There were some scribbled messages etched onto some of planks of wood. We posted our cards and having sifted through the other cards, selected one to post when we returned home. We then continued our journey in the baking heat towards the Lava Tubes. These took us underground down a series of wooden steps and rocky passages with low ceilings and the odd rope rails strategically placed to aid our scramble. It was really refreshing to reach the cool underground caves and wading through the clear water.
