We arrived in Cuenca on a rainy day and checked into our hotel, Posada del Angel this was a lovely remodeled building with two pretty interior courtyard. We spent our first evening wandering around the square then later ate in a great local restaraunt called Raymipampa, that had been recommended by our guide. The following day we took a tour around the panama hat factory where we watched the traditional, labour intensive process taking place. The price range was wide with the highest quality hats being those most tightly woven, these could fetch thousands of dollars. After this tour we the wandered around the town taking in some of the old buildings and churches and passing the flower sellers with their colourful displays. We also took a stroll along the Rio Tomebamba, at the end of which we visited the Museum del Banco Central with its interesting but gruesome collection of shrunken heads.
