We left cotapaxi via the Pan American highway, having reached Latagunga we then turned off onto the Quilotoa loop road which took us to the Quilotao Crater Lake. The clouds were down low again as is common at this altitude. The patchwork of fields with their llamas an sheep were interesting and seeing the local Indian folk going about their daily routine was very a real treat. It was really amusing when we saw several rather inebriated men folk staggering about or lying at the sides of the roads. We soon discovered why when we passed a local party still in full swing. Our guide told us that these parties sometimes last for days. As we neared the crater the tarmac road turned to a bumpy badly maintained road, an indication that the lake was nearby.
